Amos Vogel war Zeit seines Lebens ein leidenschaftlicher Leser, der sich durchs Lesen die Welt erschloss. Er sagte von sich selbst: „Mein Interesse an der Welt ist unaufhörlich. Ich habe ein äußerst aktives Interesse daran, wie die Welt ist, wie sie sein könnte oder sollte. Ich beschäftige mich sehr intensiv mit sozialen Themen, das war mein ganzes Leben lang so. Das kommt mehr von Büchern als von Filmen.“ Sein lebhaftes Interesse an Büchern vermittelte er auch seinen Kindern und legt (vermutlich 1964) mit einer illustrierten Ausgabe von Jonathan Swifts Gullivers Reisen den Grundstein für das „Vogel Institut für fortgeschrittene Lektüre.“

During his entire life, Amos Vogel was a passionate reader who learned about the world through reading. He said of himself, “Well, my interest in the world remained very constant. I have a very active interest in what the world is, what it could or should be. I’m very involved with social issues, have been all my life. This comes more from books than films.” He also conveyed his lively interest in books to his children, laying the foundation (probably in 1964) for the “Vogel Institute for Advanced Readings” with an illustrated edition of Jonathan Swift’s Gulliver’s Travels.
