Die Österreichische Post gibt mit 31. März 2022 eine Sondermarke im Wert von € 2,75 heraus, die dem Österreichischen Filmmuseum gewidmet ist.
Die Sondermarke zeigt das markante Logo des Filmmuseums, das Fabelwesen Zyphius. Gertie Fröhlich hatte dieses Fantasietier in einer historischen Abhandlung gesehen und fand, ein Tier, das an Land und unter Wasser leben kann, sei ein passendes Symbol für das Filmmuseum: “Es möge niemals untergehen.”
Am Ausgabetag erhält die Sondermarke einen Ersttagsstempel, der einen leitmotivischen Gedanken von Amos Vogel wiedergibt: “Filme sehen ist eine Art zu denken.”
Die hier abgebildete Postkarte mit Sondermarke und Ersttagsstempel zeigt das Motiv einer handschriftlichen Notiz, die Amos Vogel in das Buch The New Radicals. A Report with Documents von P. Jacobs und S. Landau (New York 1966) eingelegt hat. Dem Notizblatt gegenüber findet sich die Feststellung der Autoren: “Unsere Arbeit ist von dem Bewusstsein geprägt, dass wir vielleicht die letzte Generation im Experiment des Lebens sind.”

The Austrian Postal Service is issuing a € 2.75 special postage stamp dedicated to the Austrian Film Museum, effective on March 31, 2022.
The special stamp features the Film Museum’s distinctive logo, the mythical creature Zyphius. Gertie Fröhlich had seen this fantasy animal in a historical treatise and thought an animal that can live on land and under water was a fitting symbol for the Film Museum: “May it never sink.”
On the day of issue, the special stamp will receive a first day postmark reflecting a leitmotif thought by Amos Vogel: “Seeing films is a way of thinking.”
The postcard depicted here, with special postage stamp and first day postmark, shows a motif of a handwritten note that Amos Vogel inserted in the book The New Radicals. A Report with Documents by P. Jacobs and S. Landau (New York 1966). Opposite the note there is the authors’ statement: “Our work is guided by the sense that we may be the last generation in the experiment with living.”
